So, something came to me and I realized that there is a lot we don't know about the magical transformation into an animal, being an Animagus. We have not learned how one becomes one.
But I have one small question, when a friend of mine mentioned a fanfiction where a minor character became a Canadian goose. The word 'Canadian' alone sparked something in my mind. Can one take the form of an animal (or insects, as it were) that they had never seen or even heard of? How would their magic know what form to take if they have never been exposed to the animal?
I don't think one can take on a form that they've never heard of. If someone has never heard of a species called bears, can you imagine what his magical signature, or magic core, be trying to transform into something of a bear? Most of us have only heard of sharks, but have never seen a live shark. The only description of the animal wouuld be found in pictures and words, Then we have an instant understanding of what the animal is like, comparing to many other types of animals we have been exposed to. And I would guess that the magical signature feel the imageries made by the mind.
From there, the magic core would accept or reject on whether it is a suitable form for the magical core or personality. Perhaps Sirius had seen the dog of the same breed as his animagus before assuming that form. Same for McGonagall. I don't think one can become a pit bull if they have never seen or heard of the dog.
I can somewhat support this theory by the fact that the patronus can change shapes, as evident by our lovely Tonks. If the patronus can change due to how they were feeling. Then what's not to say if the animagus magical core energies be changed overtime with more exposure to the animal kingdom? Until, of course, the person finally becomes an anmagus, and the form will never change after that. Unless, of course, their very essence is changed, then I'm sure by then, their concerns over the animal form will be the least on the list.
